House of Valerie Joan is a boutique music services firm led by Chelsea Wilson. Named after her two grandmothers (Valerie Wilson and Joan Pearman), HVJ is a label, production house and consultancy service based in Melbourne Australia. 

Chelsea Wilson, Director

Australian Music Prize Nominee Chelsea Wilson is a Melbourne based vocalist, songwriter, and broadcaster. Her debut album “I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me” was lauded #2 Album of the Year on ABC Radio National and nominated for Best Soul Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards. An acclaimed live performer she headlined the APRA stage at the Australasian World Music Expo and made her UK debut at Glastonbury Festival. She has supported artists including Macy Gray, Tina Arena and Neneh Cherry. Her follow up album “Chasing Gold” was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and has garnered over half a million streams. In 2023 she was nominated for the Creative Leadership Award at the Australian Women in Music Awards.

After six years as Music Director of iconic Melbourne radio station PBS 106.7FM Chelsea established her own Music Services firm in 2014, specialising in live events, label services and boutique artist consultancy services. She has delivered live events for clients including Melbourne Recital Centre, Federation Square, Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Fringe, Melbourne Music Week and many more. In 2016 she was appointed Artistic Director of Stonnington Jazz for a four year term and was took the helm as Music Programmer of Brunswick Music Festival 2017-2018. She is currently Senior Producer of Contemporary Music, Monash University Performing Arts Centre.

An emerging leader in the Australian music industry, Chelsea was elected as Deputy Chair of Music Victoria in 2018. She represented Australian music at Showcase Scotland 2018 and Jazzahead! 2019 and was a guest panel speaker at the 2019 New York Jazz Congress at Lincoln Centre. As a lecturer she has taught Music Business, Small Business Management, Business Communication, PR and Festival Management at Melbourne University, Monash University, Box Hill Institute, JMC Academy and College of The Arts. She is also a grants assessor for Creative Australia, Creative Victoria, APRA AMCOS, PPCA and the Australian Music Centre.

Chelsea has a Master of Arts and Entertainment Management, a Bachelor of Popular Music, a Diploma of Entertainment Business Management and a Diploma of Leadership and Management.

Amy Chapman, Producer

Amy Chapman is an artist, sound engineer, artist manager and label director, heading up the podcast production at House of Valerie Joan. She is also the Label Manager for independent record label Wantok Musik. With extensive experience in artist management, strategic planning, tour management and sound production, Amy has applied her skills to the management of artists and releases on the Wantok Musik label roster since 2013. She has successfully delivered tours across Australia, Europe and the Melanesian region, as well as supporting the delivery and ongoing promotion of a number of ARIA, AIR, QMF and Music Victoria awarded releases. Amy is a trained sound engineer and session musician, and has performed at venues such as The Riverstage (Brisbane), Chapel off Chapel (Melbourne), The Seymour Centre (Sydney) and at festivals such as WOMADelaide, Bluesfest and the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival. Amy met Chelsea while working in the PBS 106.7 FM music library as the Interviews and Multi-Platform Content Coordinator, booking interviews and editorial for broadcast. She currently manages artists David Bridie and Frank Yamma, and in 2018 was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Victorian Government's Fast Track Fellowship program, which had her placed in Vienna as part of a two month working residency with Georg Leitner Productions.

 

Jay Adshead - Video Content and Label Distribution

Jay Adshead is a New Zealand born producer director heading up video content and distribution at HVJ. A graduate of South Seas Film and Television school, Jay has worked in various production roles on feature films such as ‘The Dressmaker’; ‘I’ Frankenstein’ and television series including ‘Mystery Road’, ‘Preacher’, ’Please Like Me’ and ‘Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries’

Jay has an acute eye for detail and a passion for black comedy - a recurring genre showcased in his credit list of four short films. Jay’s most recent film – the critically acclaimed short ‘A Clean Break’ - screened at the 2015 St Kilda Film Festival in Melbourne; won the people’s choice award at Amarcort Film Festival in Italy; and was broadcast nationally on ABC Australia. His short ‘Every Bit Counts’ was screened at St Kilda Film Festival, Kerry International Film Festival Scotland. 

Branching out into music videography Jay has filmed artists including Megan Washington, Vince Jones, Renee Geyer and festivals such as Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
